Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Mar 25: A leopard attacked a man while he was sleeping on the veranda of a house, seriously injuring him on Sunday night in Kallottu under Shirva gram panchayat limits.

The injured man, Surendra (55), a native of Bihar, works as a labourer in sand extraction from the river. Surendra was sleeping on the veranda of the house belonging to Savita Rajesh, the Shirva gram panchayat president, when the leopard attacked him.

Surendra sustained serious injuries to his cheeks, chin, and face. He was rushed to Ajjarkad government hospital, where he is currently being treated. Reports indicate that the leopard that attacked Surendra was accompanied by its cub.

Leopard sightings have become increasingly common in Kallottu, Sorpu, Agolibailu, and Padavu areas, causing fear among the villagers. Just two days ago, a leopard preyed on two domestic dogs owned by Sangeeta Naika.

In November 2023, a leopard preyed on the domestic dog of Devanna Nayak from Kallottu and left its half-eaten carcass near the jasmine plant in the house.

He was still lucky that he didnt get killed. His thick neck must have too big for leopard.Of course nowadays leopards have increased immensly in DK.Forst officers must see that it remains less so that our children and other people are not hurt.Either they should reduce their amount by hunting or give them tablets in fodder in forest. It is serious matter. We dont need these animals in forest. They dont have their natural food in forest which people have already finished by hunting illegal.Hope the injured man come home soon without any problems.

@Rita; whose fault is it that all kinds of wild animals have started coming into close proximity of cities?? And over and above that.... suggesting to hunt down these dumb animals (protected under wild life act) 🐵🐔🐶🐷....who are desperate for food and water....your logic sounds utterly ridiculous and merciless!!

As the summer heat continues expect more and more wild animals to come near human habitation in search of water and food; lucky that there are no forests around nurturing wild jumbos! Jumbos have started roaming around many places in the ghat areas; some reached Sullia and Puttur main city areas.....BC road and the Smart City are not far off.....

OMG! Killing a leopard, or for that matter is a big offense under forest act as they are protected and endangered species! INSTEAD PLEASE PROVIDE THEM ONLY SOME DRINKING WATER AND FOOD TILL THE SUMMER SEASON LASTS, AND THEY WON'T TROUBLE YOU......!!
