Mangaluru, Mar 25: A tragic incident unfolded on Monday, March 25 at Ullal, Someshwar seashore, highlighting the critical need for prompt emergency response services.

A woman, aged between 40 to 50 years, found herself in distress while bathing in the sea and began to drown. Despite a valiant effort by a diver who risked his life to rescue her, the absence of timely medical assistance proved fatal.

The incident unfolded rapidly, prompting nearby onlookers to alert the lifeguard, Ashok Someshwar, known for his numerous successful rescues. Without hesitation, Ashok sprang into action, covering a kilometer to reach the scene. Plunging into the tumultuous waves, he managed to retrieve the woman and carefully carried her to safety, ascending the temple steps with urgency.

Although the woman was brought ashore alive, she urgently required oxygen support. Regrettably, the arrival of both police and ambulance services was significantly delayed, exacerbating the dire situation. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, the woman tragically succumbed to the lack of oxygen, highlighting the critical need for efficient emergency response infrastructure.

Local residents have expressed deep concern over the absence of life-saving equipment at the seashore and urged the district administration to swiftly address this matter to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Its high time that the government looks at building a clinic or a small hospital 1 to 2 kilometers near the beach. If there is a emergency situations, why even wait for the ambulance and police.

If you elect useless MP and MLA's this is the effect. These MLA's and MP's don't care for the people. They just need power and money. Now elections are approaching and hence need to vote wisely.

This beach has claimed very many lives since decades .. Should be strictly out of bounds for bathing or even going for a dip .. local authorities should take immediate action ... advisory should be ...watch the waves from safe distance ... display boards etc

Very tragic. We blame everybod when nothing functions. We self dont even know to give a first aid or give mouth to mouth breathing,One should learn this .because emergency can happen anywhere and everywhere.simply keep the person who was in water ,try to keep her head down and legs up so that water comes out from her lungs. That should happen first.later start to give mouth to mouth breathing so that oxygen to lungs till any helping ambulance comes.May her soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to her family.First of all persons who dont know swimming shouldnt go into deep see to take bath.

I'm tired of repeating this - our beaches are steep within few feet your in deep, you can see this as waves come up just in last, also strong underwater currents locals know this and don't go into the sea but unfortunately tourists don't...
