Udupi: Santhekatte underpass opens to traffic after year-and-a-half of construction

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JD)

Udupi, Apr 17: After undergoing construction for the past one-and-a-half years, the eagerly awaited Santhekatte underpass opened to traffic on Wednesday, April 17. The announcement was made by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna on April 16, signalling the culmination of extensive efforts to complete the project.

The construction of the underpass encountered various challenges along the way, contributing to its slower-than-expected progress. However, with perseverance and dedication, the project has reached its completion, offering commuters a more convenient route.

Throughout the transition process, the Udupi traffic police played a crucial role in coordinating traffic movement and ensuring smooth operations. Their meticulous planning and arrangements have facilitated the seamless integration of the underpass into the local transportation network.

Superb . Now santekatte mess of east west north south side vehicle mess is cleared. We can directly proceed towards Kundapura without getting stuck for half an hour. People who say its incomplete ,what you expect ? Wall painted project with garden ? Every thing will be done in phased manner.

unfortunate part is that people of D.K / Udupi are always given these type of unfinished and never ending pathetic projects. we are the only unlucky people in India I believe despite having all the available resources still we are backward, reasons is for us only to blame where we have time to indulge in hatred towards others and no time to unite and fight for the facilities we need to have, just see our neighboring states - recent is Mumbai and look at one of the best projects they have opened to the public.. its a shame on us...

Assume the left side of the underpaas has not been bolstered by a retainer wall, and is composed of good quality laterite stone which would withstand heavy rainfall!!

Disasterous project. From Mangalore to Kundapur whole highway is un scientifical. Santhekatte junction is worst due to some shops in the middle of the road with political backing. This underpass is one sided and poor quality. By the time other side competes hope by another 2 years current underpass will totally damaged du to heavy traffic. Drainage system should have given to uppoor side with natural slope to Swarna river, In this case its other way and whole Ashirwad, Robosoft , LVT side will be flooded.

Hope there are proper drains fixed and that there shall be no water clogging during monsoons and the highway getting closed. Also the retained walls should be secured well, with can collapse due to the water pressure in monsoon. As the construction work are been awarded to private companies, there are high chances of using low quality materials and poor construction, due to which it may not stay for a long period and once again chaos getting created. Tax payers money is getting drained by easy mean without any values.
