Kundapur, May 18: Rashtriya Heddari Horata Samiti staged protests at the Gundmi toll gate on NH 66 on Saturday evening, May 18, opposing the cancellation of toll exemptions for locals. Samithi president Sham Sunder Bayari stated that local vehicle drivers in district panchayat limits were previously exempted from toll payments by Navyug company. "However, the highway construction company currently managing the Gundmi toll is refusing to exempt local people from toll payments. As this is objectionable, our protests will continue until the exemption is reinstated,” he said.

The protesters called for the concerned officers to come to the protest venue. When none of the officers arrived, the protesters attempted to lay a siege to the toll gate. Brahmavar circle police inspector Divakar arrived at the scene and tried to control the situation. He spoke with the protesters and assured them that he would arrange for them to speak with the officers at 5 pm on Monday, May 20. As a result, the protesters have suspended their actions temporarily. They warned that they will resume their protests if Monday evening's talks do not yield favorable results.

Local leaders Rajashekar Hebbar, Alwyn Andrade, Vittal Poojary, and hundreds of local campaigners participated in the protests.

When enough road tax central Government is collecting, then why again toll tax?,?. Government should increase road tax to compensate toll gate tax. Only border check points should be there. There should be no tax collection throughout the country. Most of the places the unity of citizen get damaged.

Hi Sunil, For your kind information, the road constructed by Navayuga is not a superior road by any means and violates all the norms of NHAI. It's built by unscientific approach, saving and bribing. The toll that is operated in Gudmi and Hejamadi is less than 60kms and in Hejamadi there is a toll in PDO road which is not built by NHAI, so the local people are forced to pay (if there is money in fastag they deduct it instantly) while travelling in inside road. There are lot of rules that is set by NHAI for toll plaza operation which is not rightly and effectively implemented by NHAI or the plaza operators. Why all the rules and drawbacks are imposed on common man? If the rules are implemented as per the gazette then we have no problem, they brought 10 second waiting rule in toll plaza show me a single toll where it is effectively implemented. The local peoyhere in DK and Udupi are always exploited because of there inability to fight for such exploitation by those influential people and local authorities and MP, MLA are puppets of their bribe. A contractor from that Andra or other part rule and exploit the common man here, what kind of logic is this are we in British raj? If you have not experienced the exploitation just go and speak to concerned authorities of that toll plaza they will treat you as slave. Open your eyes, let the rules be implemented in a fair kind, if not 100% atleast try to give 80% efficiency to collect the required toll and implement rules similar kind that gives justice to both common man and the contractor. Just open your eyes and not everyone can give hefty toll for just travelling 1-2kms in case of local commuters and it's not the mistake of local people of they have built a toll plaza without a proper survey. Thanks

All KA-20 personal vehicles should be exempted from toll in Shiroor, Gundmi and Padubidri toll gates. Let them collect tax only from other districts vehicle. In small Udupi district, there are 3 toll gates, without maintaining 65 KM distance between two.

No need of exception. Follow the rule/ law. Don't collect tax within 65 km distance.
