Udupi, Jun 2: An series of disturbing incidents involving sexual assault on several school and college girls is doing the rounds in Kundapur taluk of the district. Accused Shreyas Naika (25), who is an entrepreneur, has allegedly sexually assaulted several girl students using his influential power. The incident is reported under Amasebail police station limits of Kundapur. The accused is absconding and a POCSO case filed against him.
Accused Naika allegedly used to sexually assault girl students and stored evidence of the act on his laptop. He used to target school and college going girls. He has raped a girl continuously for the past one year. He took the girl to deserted area at Heggodlu on Halady road and sexually assaulted her in his car. As the girl became pregnant, the matter came to light.
A POCSO case was filed against the accused on May 18. He is absconding now.
A special team has been formed to nab him. His laptop is under scrutiny for any possible evidence of his heinous acts.
Meanwhile, in response to the incident, Dr Arun K, police superintendent of Udupi district issued an official media statement. He said, "There is a POCSO case registered in Amasebailu police station on May 18. Both the victim and the accused are of same Maratha Nayaka (ST) community and were in touch with each other for quite sometime, as per the victims statement before the judge. The accused is absconding. As of now we have no such information regarding extortion or Video recording. Even the victim in her statement before the judge, has not said anything regarding video recording or extortion. His laptop has also been seized. We will send it for extracting the alleged videos."
Dr Arun K also added, "Notice will be issued to media personnel concerned to give evidence regarding videos and extortion".
