Mangaluru, Jun 5: Environment Day was celebrated at St Agnes High School. The programme was organised by the eco club members. The stage was decorated with pictures emphasizing the preservation of nature. The programme began with prayers from the sacred books, expressing gratitude for the gift of nature. Ashok of class 10th A welcomed the gathering.
The five R’s of saving nature from exploitation were explained by the students. A sprightly western dance performance for the song ‘Dharti Ka Dil’ captured the attention of the audience. The students sang ‘The Earth is my home’ melodiously. Fiona Rodrigues and Ritu Lobo conducted the quiz on the facts related to the environment. The headmistress Sr Gloria AC spoke on the concepts of biodiversity and climate change. She asked the students to be responsible towards safeguarding Mother Earth.
The programme aimed to promote regenerative and eco-wise practices among students. Six students from the school are selected to participate in the competition organized by the regional science centre, Pilikula, on the theme landrestoration, desertification and drought resilience. The programme was compered by Pavani and vote of thanks was rendered by Iyola Lobo.
