Shivamogga, Jun 16: Fr Franklin D’Souza took charge as the youth director and director for Vocation Promotion & Formation of Diocese of Shimoga. Dr Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Diocese of Shimoga appointed Fr Franklin D'Souza as the youth director and director for Vocation promotion & Formation of Diocese of Shimoga on April 19, 2024.

He took charge at the Yuvamitra June 15 at 3 pm from outgoing director Fr Pius D'Souza in the presence of Dr Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Diocese of Shimoga. A programme was organised at 'Yuvamitra' Diocesan Youth office, Sacred Heart Cathedral Campus, Shivamogga.

A farewell ceremony was organized by the Yuvamitra for the outgoing youth director of the Diocese of Shimoga, Fr Pius D'Souza, and to welcome his succesor, F. Franklin Philip D'Souza. The event, organized by the ICYM and YCS YSM committee members, was a perfect blend of heartfelt emotions, gratitude, and new beginnings. The program began with welcoming the Holy Spirit.

Distinguished attendees included Bishop Francis Serrao SJ, Bishop of Shimoga, Fr Franklin Philip D'Souza, Fr Pius D'Souza, Fr Stanish S D'Souza, parish priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral and dean of Carmel Deanery, Fr Alphonse Nelson D'Souza, principal of Loyola English High School & Sacred Heart Nursery and English Primary School; Fr Francis Noronha, campus director of Sacred Heart institutions,Shivamogga; Sr Treeza Lydia B S, lady animator of ICYM and YCS/YSM; Sr Jayanti, carmel deanery lady animator; Priya Maria D'Souza, ICYM diocesan president, Joshua, YCS/YSM Diocesan President and other dignitaries.

Fr Pius D'Souza officially handed over his responsibilities to Fr Franklin Philip D'Souza by giving him the Yuvamitra office key and other records. Bishop Francis Serrao SJ and other dignitaries felicitated Fr Pius D'Souza, presenting him with tokens of appreciation. This moment of pride and respect highlighted the significant impact of Fr Pius' contributions.

Fr Pius D'Souza then addressed the gathering, expressing his gratitude and reflecting on his journey. His words were emotional and heartfelt, acknowledging the growth and achievements made during his tenure.

The event also featured the release of the Diocesan album, capturing memorable moments from Fr Pius's six years of dedicated service, as well as the Diocesan ICYM bylaws book, 'Sanmarga'.

Bishop Francis Serrao SJ then spoke about Fr Pius's dedicated service and his positive impact on the youth. He encouraged the youth to continue striving for excellence and to embrace the new leadership with enthusiasm.

Fr Franklin Philip D'Souza addressed the gathering, expressing his enthusiasm and commitment to working with the youth. His speech resonated with the audience, promising a future of energetic and inspired leadership.

Priya Maria D'Souza, ICYM president of the Diocese of Shimoga, and Sr Treeza Lydia BS, shared their experiences with Fr Pius D'Souza. Their testimonies were touching and heartfelt, showcasing the profound influence Fr Pius had on their lives.

The program also honored special guest Pradeep D'Silva, the former ICYM president and current working president of the Congress Committee Labour Department, Shivamogga. His leadership and contributions were recognized, and dignitaries honored him for his continued service and dedication.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Priya Maria D'Souza, the ICYM diocesan president. She expressed gratitude to all attendees, participants, and organizers for making the event successful and memorable.
