Udupi: Post of second additional judge vacant - Sensational Nejar murder case delayed

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Jun 16: The quadruple murder case in Nejar, which created a sensation across Karnataka, will face delays as there is no judge in the second additional sessions court where the hearing of accused Praveen Chowgule is taking place.

The current judge, Dinesh Hegde, was transferred. In the last inquiry of the Nejar murder case, the next hearing was scheduled from June 13 to 15. However, due to the absence of a judge, accused Praveen Chowgule was presented via video conferencing before acting judge Srinivasa Suvarna. The hearing was subsequently postponed to June 18.

Recently, four judges, including district chief justice Shanta Veera Shivappa, were transferred. While new judges have been appointed for the other three posts, no nomination has been made for the position left vacant by the transfer of justice Dinesh Hegde.

The inquiry of the case was progressing at a brisk pace. However, with the arrival of a new judge, there is a possibility of delays as the new judge will need time to study the case. Justice Dinesh Hegde used to handle civil, criminal, and cases from Karkala taluk on Mondays and Tuesdays. He has been transferred to Bengaluru.
