Mangaluru: Ticket payment via UPI in city buses soon, students to receive 60% rebate

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 16: In a press conference, Azeez Parthipadi, president of the Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners’ Association (DKBOA), announced that city buses will soon implement a facility to pay ticket fares through UPI (Google Pay, Paytm, etc.).

Azeez stated, “The association introduced the Chalo card three years ago as part of digitalization. This will now be converted into the DKBOA student card, allowing students to avail a 60% discount on passes. The public will receive a 10% discount. School and college students can travel with a 60% discount by purchasing 40 or 50 trip passes, which will cover their commute from home to their educational institution. Students can obtain the card for free. Our goal is to ensure that at least 90% of students benefit from the DKBOA card.”

“Passes can be availed from Milagres Building in Hampankatta, Citylight Building, Sagar Tourist in front of Mandovi Motors, Sai Mobile near Suratkal Bus Stand, and Anu Mobile near Thokkottu Bus Stand.”

“As part of the ongoing digitalization process, in addition to the UPI ticket system, GPS will be introduced to improve bus timings. Mangaluru Smart City Limited has also initiated a project in this regard, and we will respond appropriately as soon as they contact us.”

“Drivers and conductors have been instructed to prioritize passenger safety, especially for students. They are advised to be extra cautious during the monsoon, prohibit travel on the footboard, issue tickets only through machines, mandatorily accept the DKBOA student card, wear uniforms, avoid using blaring horns and tape recorders, park buses inside the bus bay parking area, behave courteously with passengers, and ensure that students are not neglected.”

Ramachandra Pilar, chief secretary, vice president K Ramachandra Nayak, and former president Dilraj Alva were also present.

First install doors on private buses and reign in rogue and rash bus drivers . Owners must have realised that drivers and conductors are looting their money , hence this move to digitalise .

I agree that doors need to be installed. Also, speed governors in all buses should be mandatory. Sudden passengers boarding in middle of the road should be totally stopped. AC buses needed during Summers. Government buses need to run on daily basis with fixed schedule. Run the Volvo buses from Manipal to Mangalore.

Because of over crowded buses, those who are going for job, facing lot of problem to reach their office. Administration must arrange separate buses for student boys And girls. Mostly according to me, in the bus if ladies are more then the boys will rush. So for ladies separate buses must arrange most of the rush problem will solve. The schools and Colleges administration must arrange rented buses for their students. In flights they take passengers according to seats, in film theater, Railway, ships, they don't allow more than the sanctioned limit . OUR TRAFFIC POLICE PUT FINE FOR RICKSHAW, IF MORE THAN 3 PASSENGERS, IN SCOOTER ONLY 2 ALLOWED, BUT WHEN THERE IS A LIMIT IN THE CITY BUSES WHY OUR TRAFFIC POLICE NOT BOOK THE BUSES??????? Our traffic Police is responsible for this passengers problems.

Rash driving by city bus drivers is universal in Mangalore. Bus owners should loose their license to operate if there are accidents, only then the situation can improve

need of the hour is not UPI...improving the bus timings and reducing speed of movement. fixing of doors to buses like in Kerala and Tamilandu and even i think in MYsore and bengalore they have doors...not sure though. moreover, UPI cannot be implemented as how a conductor keep track if everyone has paid or not..or else the buses should have that like in Dubai as you get onto it you swipe and go inside...but it is not feasible in highly populated countries...where the national game is night kabaddi.
