Kasargod, Jun 16: Merin, a nursing officer at Kasaragod General Hospital, has garnered praise for her exemplary display of humanity and motherly care. She tenderly breastfed a 37-day-old baby girl named Ria Burman, whose mother had tragically passed away due to illness.

Ekadashi Mali, the wife of Rajesh Burman of Assam origin residing in rented quarters at Kuniya, gave birth to baby Ria on May 5 at Periyaram Medical College. Sadly, Ekadashi succumbed to illness on June 13 while undergoing treatment at Kasaragod General Hospital. Her mortal remains were kept at the hospital's mortuary for post-mortem examination.

When Ria Burman began crying inconsolably due to hunger after her mother's demise, Nursing Officer Merin stepped forward and breastfed her, providing the much-needed nourishment and comfort.

Dr. Jamal Ahmed, the hospital's deputy superintendent, praised Sister Merin for her compassionate act, emphasising the importance of such gestures in extending care beyond medical treatment.

Merin's act of compassion has touched many, highlighting the dedicated and caring nature of healthcare professionals in ensuring the well-being of their patients, especially in moments of profound loss and vulnerability.
