Mangaluru: Misinformation by police claims man’s death despite ongoing treatment

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jun 19: A significant mix-up occurred when police erroneously informed the family of a patient that he had passed away, even though he was still alive and receiving treatment at the hospital.

Shekar Gowda (55) from the Dharmasthala police jurisdiction was admitted to Wenlock Hospital on June 15 due to severe health issues. There were no relatives present with him at the hospital. The following day, the Dharmasthala police station contacted his relatives, mistakenly informing them that Shekar Gowda had died. However, upon their visit to Wenlock Hospital with the Dharmasthala police, they found that Shekar Gowda was still alive.

Shekar Gowda had been admitted to the hospital in an unconscious state on June 15, and since no heirs were present, the hospital followed protocol and reported the case to the Pandeshwar police station. The report mentioned that the patient was in a critical condition. The police, upon reviewing the report, sent an email to the Beltangady police station, which then forwarded it to the Dharmasthala police station. The report accurately described the patient’s critical or unconscious state. However, an error occurred when the Pandeshwar police typed ‘deceased’ in the subject line of the email.

Upon reading the email’s subject, the Dharmasthala police mistakenly believed that Shekar Gowda had passed away and conveyed this incorrect information to his relatives. Despite the report’s correct mention of his critical condition, the mistake in the email’s subject line caused the confusion, explained Dr Jacinta, the medical superintendent at Wenlock Hospital.

Problem is we do not have educated people in the department. After receiving the email Dharmasthala police could have contacted the Mangalore police for confirmation, before informing the man's relatives.

Look at the conditions of the two buildings in the picture. How can govt neglect a hospital to be at this condition. Shame on the health department. Instead of going behind the cows at least the so-called nationalist could help in cleaning process.

Whats wrong in the bldgs? They're far better, much better than many European countries. You should see the roads of European countries dirtier than us filled with garbage and filthy atmosphere.

If you can take me alongwith you as a guide, i will guide you properly. Which country to avoid and some countries which streets you should avoid ? For ex canada - uk - some places in usa and so on. Same like our countries they too have old bldgs - bad streets - people staying on the road and so on. There also many thieves - law breakers- cheaters. Students and mostly young generation is very rash - rough. Our youth are much better. For more details, please take me to europe during your next visit. I will guide.

Forget HAI statistics; in third world places, there may not even be a record of the number of medium to small nursing, sick care homes running... across the length and breadth 😞🙏

Rudy sir, before calling us third world country, just google and see how dirty new york city is !! See the surroundings of Eiffel tower, Vancouver, canada, crowd in metro trains and read whats going inside the train ? Druggatics even urinate and do other non sense things...Paris, once upon a beautiful place, now it stinks urine all over it seems...In u.k. atleast people urinate at night the report says whereas in Paris, during the day itself. Alcoholic people are falling on the road and sleeping....garbage accumulation....and so on !! We have come ahead much more than past 10 years. Only media depicting India as dirty. Covid time, death rates were highter in European countries than us. Australia had continuous lockdowns....italy highest deaths and so as china/usa/Germany etc..please do your own research and come to conclusion.

True Dotor ji.... Hygiene wise too very poor and weak. Only difference is there beggars/street dwellers/thieves etc wear suits and in my country such people either be without shirt or just on one "ಗಂಜಿ ಬುರಾಕ್". And those poor people who are not in good mental health, wear torn clothes ....May god bless them and give them recovery. I agree with the comments of Shri Prashant

Such type of goofups are pretty common in third world places, because of callousness, lack of accountability, and lack of proper coordination between various agencies!

@Monty Dada; BBC is a foreign broadcasting corporation, which has got it's own huge fan following since long! I just can't understand where BBC chaps goofing up has to do with this particular incident? This particular incident in this news report is nothing, there are many many extremely unimaginable goof-ups that happen across the length and breadth of third world places, which you should be knowing better..... knowing the state of affairs in civic health facilities etc etc; feel like laughing when some enforcement authorities somewhere giving a statement that Xcases of alcohol was consumed by rats, some top chaps trying to backdate documents of the recent tragic fire incident in an enclosed recreation center in one state.. Pune Porsche crash samples getting changed...bones for forensic analysis getting lost etc etc etc..etc😞😞😞🙏 😉🙏
