Siddaramaiah warns of dangerous trend of spreading fake news through social media

Bengaluru, July 1: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah warned on the dangerous trend of spreading fake news through social media and cautioned the society to be wary of those spreading fake news.

Special units are being established in each district to keep a close watch on fake news being widely spread through social media, he said after inaugurating the Press Day programme jointly organised by the Press Club of Bengaluru, Karnataka
Working Journalists Association and the Department of Information and Public Relations in Bengaluru on Monday.

He said society, press and the media organisations should think very seriously about this dangerous trend, which is harmful for the country and democracy.

“Fake news spread through social media is a disaster for society,” he said and declared that a special unit has been established in every district to keep a close watch on fake news and fake news is being detected. He said fact check units have been activated in all districts to detect, control and take action on fake news.
