Mangaluru, July 4: Setting a remarkable example of altruism, a government officer has not only donated blood 80 times but also spearheaded efforts to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation.

Divakar Kharvi, assistant director of the Fisheries Department, took the lead in organising a blood donation camp on June 14 at Wenlock Hospital, where he made his 80th blood donation.

Originating from Gangolli, Kharvi has been a dedicated blood donor since his college days. Upon his transfer to Mangaluru a year ago, he continued his tradition of donating blood annually on World Blood Donors’ Day, inspiring colleagues and staff members to participate.

The event saw a significant turnout, with more than 50 individuals donating blood, resulting in the collection of approximately 50 units. Among the donors was Asif Ullal, a fisherman from Malpe, who has contributed an impressive 101 donations.

Kharvi’s initiative not only underscores his personal commitment but also highlights the collective effort to meet the critical need for blood donations. His leadership and advocacy have made a substantial impact in promoting a culture of voluntary blood donation within the community.
