Kundapura, July 19: Heavy and continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of the Varahi scheme and Varahi Peak Anecut has resulted in substantial water accumulation.

Officials from Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) have cautioned that if this trend continues, water could overflow through the radial gates of Varahi peak dam, releasing anywhere between a minimum of 1000 to a maximum of 5000 cusecs of water used for hydroelectric power generation.

They have stressed the need for precautionary measures for families living downstream of the reservoir, as stated in the announcement.
