Mangaluru: Over Rs two crore fraud alleged in arecanut dealings

Mangaluru, Jul 23: A case has been registered against dry arecanut buyers for allegedly cheating arecanut dealers in the city out of more than Rs two crore.

Rahul Gupta sold 61 bags of arecanut to Kapil Mattani on March 29, receiving full payment. Based on this trust, Rahul sold more arecanut to Mattani between May 17 and June 19, amounting to Rs 85,47,139. When Rahul inquired about the outstanding payment, Mattani allegedly abused him and threatened his life.

Kapil Mattani and Kamal Mattani are accused of deceiving Amit Sharma, Vinay Sharma, Siddartha Sharma, and others out of Rs 1,34,71,854.

In another case, Kamlesh Padalia allegedly bought arecanut worth Rs 59,61,973 from the company owned by Habib Rahiman K and Soofi Ibrahim. His mobile phone is currently switched off. Padalia also allegedly owes Rs 25,24,639 to Narayana Bhat for arecanut purchases, with a total outstanding amount of Rs 1,21,25,362 to several arecanut dealers in the city.

Two separate cases have been registered at the CEN police station in connection with these incidents.
