Haveri, Jul 27: BJP MP for Haveri Basavaraj Bommai has denied the Congress charge that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s budget is step-motherly towards Karnataka and refuted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s tirade that State has got “chombu” or an empty vessel.

Speaking to media persons in Haveri on Saturday, the former chief minister claimed that the budget has “adequately provided for Karnataka’s progress” and felt that more is still needed, including the grant of Rs 5,000 crore for Upper Bhadra Project.

“We have met the Union ministers and they have assured us that they have sought Finance Department’s approval for the funding,” he said.

Bommai expressed confidence that funds would be secured with effort and criticised the Congress for merely making allegations.

He assured that more grants would start flowing, and further funding would be forthcoming in the future.

The senior BJP leader said the BJP-JD(S) meeting is being held in Bengaluru on Sunday to chalk out the future course of action and agitation in the MUDA site scam as also the Maharshi Valmiki Corporation scam. He demanded a CBI probe to get to the bottom of the scam and punish the culprits.
