Karkala, Jul 30: Numerous houses and farms were inundated by the heavy rains that lashed the taluk on July 19. A photo went viral on social media, claiming that the water of a well remained uncontaminated despite the surrounding farm being flooded. It has now been revealed that this was fake news.
The open well, located in the arecanut farm of Madhusudhan Poojary, a resident of Posralu Shettybettu Bandasale in Mundkur village, gets inundated every year during the monsoon. This year was no different. However, someone took a photo of the well water appearing clear and shared it on social media, falsely claiming that the well was in Uppinangady. In reality, it is located in Karkala Posralu, according to Sanket Poojary, who took the photo.
Sanket Poojary from Posralu stated, “This phenomenon happens every year. This is not the first time. I had taken a photo of the well on our farmland and shared it with my friends. However, it went viral, and incorrect information is being circulated.”
