Mangaluru, Aug 2: The Kangen Distributors Club (KDC) held the Kangen Aatida Koota at Sharada Vidyalaya in Kodialbail.

Speaking on the occasion, Veena Shetty, retired general manager of MRPL, said, “Kangen means going back to roots in Japanese. Similarly, Kangen Aatida Koota aims to create awareness about the lifestyle and food habits of Tulunadu, taking us back to our roots, which is truly appreciable.”

The event was inaugurated by cine actor Neeriksha Shetty, who stated, “It is not enough for water to look clean to the naked eye; it should also be healthy. KDC is doing a commendable job by creating awareness about clean water.”

Achievers in various fields were felicitated, including retired soldier Balakrishna T Bhandary, Daiva Nartaka Umesh Pambada, herbal doctor Lalita Poojarty Shibaroor, Kambala Kshethra Kolake Irvathur Ananda, social achiever Nafisa, and sports achiever Mehaveesh Hussain.

The program was presided over by KDC director Rajesh Nair. Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishad president Dr M P Srinath, Byari Sahitya Academy president Ummer U H, Konkani Sahitya Academy president Jochim Stany Alvares, Udupi ASP P A Hegde, assistant forest officer P Sridhar, chief convener Satyaranjan Bhandary, Rajeshwari D Shetty, conveners Ganesh H R, Rajesh Patali, and others were present.

Rajeshwari Shetty gave the introduction, Satyaranjan Bhandary rendered the vote of thanks, and Nitesh Shetty Ekkaru compered the event.

The event featured an exhibition of over a hundred traditional tools used by the ancestors of Tulunadu and displays related to Tulu culture. A unique exhibition of foods consumed during the month of Aati in Tulunadu was available, along with special programs related to Tulunadu Janapada culture. Medicinal herbs used for Kodi Mard were also exhibited.
