Bengaluru, Aug 5: "Kundapura Kannada is a language deeply intertwined with the lives of its speakers, who revere it as much as they do their mothers," said actor Ramesh Bhat. Speaking at the inauguration of the World Kundapura Kannada Day celebration organized by team Kundapurians on Sunday at the Netaji Maidan in Basaveshwara Nagar, he emphasized that Kundapura Kannada is a language of life, not just a language for business. This intrinsic connection keeps the language alive today, he noted.
Bhat highlighted the importance of not forgetting one’s mother tongue and home language, regardless of how successful one becomes. He urged everyone to recognize the significance of their language and use it in their daily interactions.
The event honoured various individuals with the 'Kundapura Ratna' award for their achievements in arts and culture, including Arehole Sadashiva Rao and film director Yaqub Khader. The 'Kundapura Samman' award was presented to Yakshagana artist Srinivas Sastan, Gauri K, diving expert Manjunath Kodladhi, international athlete Vitthal, social worker Dinesh Bandavya, educator Sujata, and progressive farmer Krishna Kulal Averse.
