Belagavi, Aug 5: The BJP-JD(S) padayatra and the misuse of Raj Bhavan over the alleged MUDA scam will be successfully faced both politically and legally, declared Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday.

Speaking to media persons at the Belagavi airport, he said Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot should withdraw his show cause notice to the government and reject the complaint from social activist T J Abraham seeking permission to prosecute him and made it clear that the government will await the decision of Raj Bhavan.

Rs 2 lac compensation, rebuilding of houses

The chief minister, who arrived in Belagavi to review the devastation caused by heavy downpour, declared that the people who had completely lost their houses due to the rains will be provided a compensation of Rs 1.2 lac and new or rebuilding of houses.

Responding to BJP criticism that the government was discriminating in granting compensation, Siddaramaiah said former BJP chief minister B S Yediyurappa had announced Rs 5 lac compensation to those who had completely lost their houses in floods. The amount was misused and just one installment was given while several persons did not get compensation or some are yet to get the second or third instalments.

“We have decided to provide Rs 1.2 lakh compensation and rebuiliding of houses,” he said.

He later visited villages and different places including Gokak town and the relief centres.
