Despite regulations prohibiting heavy vehicles from using the service road, numerous trucks, buses, and other large vehicles have been observed traversing on it. This situation is particularly alarming given the road’s compromised condition, worsened by recent construction of an underpass and heavy rainfall, which have left it soggy and unstable.
The underpass, which remains open for vehicle movement, is plagued by potholes, making travel hazardous. Consequently, many drivers are opting for the service road as an alternative route. This has intensified the risk of road collapse due to the heavy loads being carried, potentially leading to significant damage.
Traffic congestion on the Santhekatte service road has become commonplace, with many commuters travelling from Brahmavar to Udupi relying on this route. The ongoing construction further aggravates the risk, as the road’s structural integrity is already compromised.
If heavy vehicles continue to use the service road, the potential for collapse increases significantly. Such an event could lead to substantial damage and disruption, impacting not only the service road but also potentially affecting the underpass.
There is an immediate need for strict enforcement of regulations and implementation of safety measures to prevent further deterioration of the road and mitigate risks associated with ongoing construction and heavy vehicle traffic.
