Mangaluru, Aug 7: The Panambur police arrested a 51-year-old accused, in connection with the attempted sexual assault and murder of a 14-year-old girl from Belagavi in Jokatte.
A complaint was filed by the girl's uncle, after she was found strangled to death on August 6 at around 10:30 am and a case had been registered at Panambur Police Station under Crime No. 67/2024, Section 103 (1) BNS.
The accused has been identified as Fakeerappa Hanamappa Madar, originally from Madar Oni, Hanchinal, Parasgad, Belagavi District, and was currently residing in a rented house in Jokatte. He was apprehended by the police and presented in court. The investigation is ongoing. The accused had been working as a daily wage laborer in the Jokatte area for the past six months.
The investigation revealed that Fakirappa was acquainted with the complainant and had been visiting their rental house frequently. On August 6, , he allegedly attempted to sexually assault the girl while she was alone at home. When the girl resisted, a spurned Fakeerappa murdered her.
The case was swiftly cracked under the guidance of Mangaluru city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal, DCP (Law and Order) Siddharth Goyal, DCP (Crime and Traffic) B P Dinesh Kumar, ACP (North division) Raveesh Nayak (in-charge), and ACP (North sub-division) Manoj Kumar Nayak.
The investigation team included Panambur police inspector Mohammad Saleem Abbas, Panambur police station sub-inspector Sreekala K T, ASI Krishna, head constables Satheesh M R and Sayyed Intiyaz, and constables Shashikumar and Rakesh.
