Karnataka ranks second in organ donation across India

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Aug 8: The number of organ donations is steadily increasing in Karnataka, placing the state second in India for organ donation.

In 2023, Karnataka was recognized as the second-best state in the country by the Union government, with 178 people having donated organs. Ballary district has the highest number of donors.

Various programs are being held across the state to raise awareness about organ donation. Karnataka also ranked third in taking oaths at the Ayushman Bhava Health Convention.

To further encourage organ donation, the Karnataka government has issued an order to honour the family members of those who have donated organs. This year, those who donated organs between January 26 and August 14 will be honoured during the Independence Day celebration on August 15.

Orissa, Tamil Nadu (MOHAN Foundation) and several States Honour the family members of the donor and incentivise ,but apart from creating more publicity Karnataka Govt should honour the members and also help the family at the time of death with some incentives. Having a function in prescence of Governor is not only a great feeling for the family , but also is an incentive for others to come forward to donate organs and State becomes numero uno ! A kidney or any other majpr organ costs quite a bit , hence apart from encouragement and honour some incentive will help the cause as the donor does the sacrifice freely . Also connected sercvices and Death Certificate for the donor should be issued without hassle.
