Kundapur, Aug 9: A 45-year-old goldsmith, was found dead in a decomposed state in his rented house on Chikkanasalu Road, opposite Jai Hind Hotel, belonging to a man named Nagaraj.

The deceased identified as Santosh Acharya had been working as a goldsmith in Kundapur for the past 25 years. He would visit his home in Uppoor near Brahmavar once a week.

On Friday, August 9, on the occasion of Nagara Panchami, his brother Suresh Acharya tried to contact him as Santosh had not come to visit the family. When the phone was switched off, Suresh sent a friend to check on him. The friend reported a foul smell coming from inside the house, leading to the discovery of Santosh Acharya's death. He was found lying on his bed, with the door locked from the inside. The fan was still running, and he had earphones in his ears.

The body was moved to the government hospital mortuary and later sent to Manipal Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

It is reported that Santosh had sent a "Good Morning" message to a friend on August 6 morning. It is suspected that he may have suffered a heart attack while sleeping on August 6 night.

He was unmarried. He is survived by his mother, two brothers, and a sister.
