Mangaluru/Bantwal, Aug 13: Four students and four teachers from four PM Shri schools in Karnataka have been invited to participate in the Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi on August 15. Among them, one student and one teacher are from Dakshina Kannada district (DK). The special invitees are Purvi U Shetty, a student at Mangaluru's Shaktinagar Naalyapadavu Kuvempu Centenary Upgraded Model Higher Primary School, and Shwetha K, a teacher from the same school.
Additionally, six women panchayat presidents from Karnataka have been invited to the Independence Day celebration. Among them is Nefeesa, the president of Peruvayi gram panchayat.
Purvi U Shetty is the daughter of Umesh and Geetha Shetty, who work as daily wage labourers and reside in Karmika Colony, Shaktinagar. She excels in both academics and extracurricular activities. In total, eight people will represent Karnataka, hailing from Kalaburagi, Bengaluru, Belagavi, and Mysuru educational sections.
Nefeesa has been serving as the gram panchayat president for the past year, previously holding the position of vice president. She gained recognition for driving a waste collection vehicle during her tenure as vice president. Nefeesa was honoured by the chief minister at a program held in Bengaluru as part of World Youth Skill Day. She has been instrumental in various development projects, including roads, Anganwadi centers, and NAREGA projects, and has donated books and uniforms to several students. She also serves as a resource person for the state institute of rural development in solid waste management.
Student Purvi U expressed her excitement, saying, “I am delighted to participate in the Independence Day parade in New Delhi. I never dreamed of this opportunity. It is a great honour to see Prime Minister Modi and President Murmu in person.”
Dakshayini, the head teacher of the school, commented, “The selection of a student and teacher from our school is a sign of progress. This is a golden opportunity for Purvi and Shwetha. We are truly proud that our school has been recognized at the national level.”
