Udupi, Aug 14: Officials inspecting the proposed toll gate site at Kanchinadka were confronted by members of the Anti-Toll Protest Committee on Tuesday August 13.

Raghu L, executive engineer of the State Road Development Corporation, and Hemant Kumar, assistant engineer, visited the site for inspection. Upon learning of their visit, anti-toll activists gathered at the location.

The officials provided details of the toll project to the protest leaders. However, the activists firmly opposed the construction of the toll gate, stating they would not allow it under any circumstances. The situation escalated as the activists confronted the officials.

During the altercation, employees of the company responsible for the toll gate project engaged in a verbal spat with the protesters. The activists expressed their dissatisfaction with the company's staff, ultimately forcing them to leave the site. Police intervened, instructing the employees to depart the area in their vehicle, and attempted to pacify the protesters.

The police later recalled the officials, who attempted to provide further information. However, the protesters remained steadfast in their demand that the toll gate construction should not proceed.

Suhas Hegde, a leader of the Anti-Toll Protest Committee, announced that a large-scale protest would be organized within five days to demand the cancellation of the toll gate proposal.

Now before any Jaahil starts blaming central government for this, let this be made clear that this highway is a state highway and so the toll proposal was also sent by the state government. Jai Siddu.

In many places where toll is collected there are excellent roads e.g. Hassan to Nelamangala. The worst road I travelled on is from Charmadi to Madanthyar.

There should be an anti-toll protest because if anyone sees the condition of the roads, they will think twice before paying the toll. The name of toll is loot, the name of tax is loot, and all this is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas aur sabka saththyanas’ (Together with all, development & destruction for all).”

Justified protests... Activists will succeed in their battle against injustice... We are witnessing substandard and rank bad road works everywhere in twin districts... Politicians, corrupt officials and shameless greedy contractors have crossed all limits of sanity... Now the roads must be named after the parents of the contractor for a minimum of 3 years after work completion...

The contractors will somehow manage to build the Toll gates as it is a lucrative business. You don't have to care about the condition of the roads, but money will be minted without any hurdles.
