Kundapur, Aug 20: The thief who stole money from Sri Laxminarayana Temple in Hemmady on Friday night left the stolen cash in a nearby school, where it was discovered on Monday evening.
A Satyanarayana Pooja was held at the temple on Monday, and the finding of the money is being considered a miracle by locals.
The act of the thief stealing money from the offertory box as well as from the temple priest's office was recorded on CCTV. Additionally, he stole a small amount of cash from three nearby houses.
Teachers at Hemmady Government Higher Primary School, located near the temple, noticed a green bag on the school's verandah on Saturday. However, they did not take it seriously. When the bag was still in the same spot on Monday, curious students opened it and found money inside.
The head teacher reported the matter to the temple administration, who then informed the police. PSI Pushpa and personnel arrived at the scene in the afternoon and confiscated the money. The cash will be returned to the temple under court authority.
The thief is said to have stolen a total of Rs 45,000 in cash. However, only Rs 3,035 was found in the bag. It is suspected that the thief might have kept the remaining amount elsewhere, possibly due to remorse after the theft.
