Udupi, Aug 27: St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady held an engaging and insightful orientation programme on study habits and goal setting for students in grades 7-12 on Monday. The programme, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of effective study practices and goal achievement, the programme took place at the school’s JP Tauro Hall for grades 9-12 and Mother Theresa Hall for grades 7-8.
The event commenced with a prayer song performed by the student choir, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Principal of the school Fr Vijay J D’Souza delivered the introductory speech, emphasizing that education extends beyond the classroom. He highlighted the importance of positivity, mutual support among peers, and the significance of goal setting for success. Fr Vijay stressed the need for thorough preparation to achieve what may seem impossible.
The session for grades 9-12 was led by Dr Shivaprasad K, a national trainer with JCI India. Dr Shivaprasad focused on the concept of visualizing success. He elaborated on the traits of a successful student and the necessity of setting and pursuing goals. Through engaging activities and real-life examples, he illustrated that while life presents numerous challenges, each problem has a solution that requires persistence, dedication, hard work, discipline, confidence, and self-motivation.
For grades 7-8, Dr Lydia Andrade, associate professor in the anatomy department at KMC, Manipal, conducted the session. Dr Lydia concentrated on teamwork and collaboration, and the importance of leadership qualities in today’s competitive world. She advocated for effective communication skills, respect for others, and the celebration of small victories to get motivation. Her session was interactive, employing various activities to communicate these essential life skills effectively.
The orientation programme was well-received, with students reflecting positively on the insights shared. The programme was meticulously planned by principal Fr Vijay J D’Souza, with guidance from vice principal Rita Quadros.
