Udupi, Aug 28: The recent death of Siddharth Shetty, a student from Lakshmindra Nagar, who drowned in Karamballi Lake, has sparked multiple suspicions and concerns. Questions are being raised about the involvement of his friends, who were present with him at the time of the incident.
Siddharth Shetty was pursuing his studies in Automobile Engineering in Manipal. He aspired to continue his postgraduate studies in Germany and dreamed of a career in car design. Siddharth, being a Kannadiga, had a unique ability to bridge communication gaps among students from Maharashtra and North India by fluently speaking English and Hindi. This made him a beloved figure among his peers.
On the day of the incident, Siddharth was accompanied by his friends who have now become subjects of suspicion. Notably, one among them had already dropped out of college and had a case registered against him at the Brahmavar police station for reckless driving. The other two are both pursuing engineering studies at different colleges. Although Siddharth was not particularly close to them, he went along with one of them on a scooter that day, but there was no clarity about where they were heading.
Despite knowing that Siddharth could not swim, one of them reportedly encouraged him to enter the water. The incident occurred after 6 PM, and his friends did not make any attempt to save him. This has led Siddharth’s family to suspect foul play, particularly involving one of among the three.
Siddharth’s parents have voiced their suspicions to the police, who have assured that a thorough investigation is underway. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
