Mangaluru: Divya Sathish Shetty elected president of Kotekar town panchayat

Mangaluru, Aug 29: Divya Sathish Shetty of the BJP has been elected as the president of Kotekar town panchayat, while Praveen Bagambila has been chosen as the vice president.

In the elections held on Thursday, Divya Sathish Shetty, who contested for the post of president, defeated Independent candidate Harish Rao by six votes. Praveen Bagambila, who contested for the vice president post, defeated Congress candidate Mohammed Ajjinadka by six votes.

The BJP holds 11 out of the 17 seats in the Kotekar town panchayat. With MP Brijesh Chowta casting his vote, the BJP secured 12 votes, while four members of the Congress, two members of the SDPI, and an Independent voted for the Congress candidates.

This is the second election since Kotekar was upgraded to a town panchayat, and it has been a BJP stronghold for many years.
