Udupi, Sep 2: The Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE), in collaboration with the IEEE Mangaluru Subsection at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology & Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, celebrated “National Space Day” with an enlightening invited talk in the college premises on August 30.

The event was organized to commemorate the historic success of Chandrayaan-3’s lunar landing.

Professor Ramesh Bhat, convener of the Amateur Astronomers Club at Sri Mahaveera College, Moodbidri, delivered a compelling presentation on “Existing Space Missions and the Success of Chandrayaan-3.” He provided an in-depth overview of the Chandrayaan mission, which first launched in 2008, highlighting its landmark achievement of discovering water on the Moon, an accomplishment that positioned India as the first country to make such a discovery.

In his talk, Prof Bhat also paid tribute to notable figures in space exploration, including Neil Armstrong, the first person to set foot on the Moon. He honored the contributions of Indian space pioneers such as Kalpana Chawla, Rakesh Sharma, and Sunita Williams. Professor Bhat poignantly concluded his presentation by recounting the tragic loss of Kalpana Chawla’s space shuttle during its re-entry into earth’s atmosphere.

The event was masterfully conducted by Shravya Tantry, a second-year student of Electronics and Communication Engineering student, with coordination by Shashikala R, ISTE chapter coordinator, and Sadananda L from the IEEE Mangalore Subsection of SMVITM.
