Mangaluru: Girl Child Day celebration held at St Mary’s PU College

Mangaluru, Sep 10: The Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary and The Girl Child Day was celebrated at St Mary’s P.U college on September 9 in the college auditorium. The programme highlighted on the importance of girls rights, gender equality and impact of literacy in the society.

The event commenced with a prayer song seeking the divine blessings from the Almighty by the students of II science . A stirring dance drama depicting the protection of the girl child along with a skit reflecting on the gender discrimination and female foeticide was commendable as nearly every day there are reports of sexual violence against women. The skit created awareness on the importance of nurturing girls globally and empowering them.

Ziyaafa Shaikh from II Sci welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest for the occasion, Smitha Karat (Lecturer in Biology). The chief guest in her message appreciated and acknowledged Supriya Bhat (program co-ordinator) and all the students of II science for their brilliant and captivating performances. She shared her views on certain values, nurturing the children, respecting women and empowering women and the need to practice them in one’s life.

The programme was emceed by Afsa Suha and Nafeesath Siza Mahiya whereas vote of thanks was delivered by Kadeeja Naseeha from II science.
