Mangaluru, Sep 13: The course inauguration of the 3rd batch of BSc Nursing students for the academic year 2024-25 was held at Father Muller Nursing College, Thumbay, on Friday, September 13 at 10:30 am. The programme commenced with a prayer song led by the 2nd semester BSc Nursing students.
Administrator Fr Sylvester Vincent Lobo welcomed the dignitaries, the new batch of students, and their parents, providing a brief introduction to FMNCT and FMHT before the formal welcome address.
The course was officially inaugurated with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest, Dr Antony Sylvan D'Souza, dean of Father Muller Medical College, along with the president of the programme Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, Dr Sr Judy SIC, principal of FMNCT, other dignitaries, and a student representative.
In his inaugural address, the chief guest, Dr Antony Sylvan D'Souza, congratulated the freshers and their parents on choosing the nursing profession and praised the institution for meeting the essential requirements of the course. He emphasized the importance of integrating the head, hand, and heart in nursing and encouraged students to develop competencies in critical thinking, communication skills, and compassionate care. Dr D'Souza highlighted the opportunities for learning and professional growth despite the challenges faced in the nursing field.
In his presidential address, the director of FMCI, Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho, reflected on the esteemed legacy of the Father Muller Institutions. He spoke about the significance of providing not just medical care but also comfort and spiritual support to patients. Fr Coelho reminded the students that nursing is a vocation that requires treating patients with the same care and compassion one would show family members, regardless of their illness. He emphasized that God is the ultimate healer, with caregivers serving as His instruments, and urged the students to follow the example of Mother Teresa in their work, aspiring to her spirit of compassion and service.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Janet Sequeira, vice principal of FMNCT. The event was compered by Dr Edveena Monis, associate professor at FMNCT.
A brief parent-teacher-student orientation was conducted by Dr Sr Judy SIC, followed by the national anthem and lunch.
