Bantwal, Sep 14: In a burglary reported on September 12, thieves broke into a house in Periyar, Bantwal taluk, and made off with valuables worth Rs 3.54 lac, including cash and gold jewellery.
The incident took place at the residence of Mohammed Iqbal, a caterer by profession. He had locked up his house on September 8 and left with his wife to visit relatives in Bengaluru. Upon returning home on September 12, he discovered that the front door latch had been broken and the house had been ransacked. The thieves had also broken the lock of a cupboard in one of the rooms, stealing Rs 1.70 lac in cash, a gold chain with a pendant weighing 36 grams worth Rs 1.80 lac, and a mobile phone valued at Rs 4,000.
Bantwal rural police inspector Shivakumar, along with PSI Harish M R, PSI Murthy, and their team, visited the crime scene to investigate. Fingerprint experts and a dog squad were also called in to assist in the investigation. A case has been registered, and further inquiries are ongoing.
