Mangaluru, Sep 14: After a month-long hiatus, the illegal sand mafia has resumed excavation at Pavoor Uliya Island. According to residents, over 20 boats arrived on the island on the night of the 13th and began extracting sand. This renewed activity persists despite repeated pleas from local delegations urging the district administration to implement permanent measures to prevent illegal digging on the island.

In response to the allegations, the geology and mining department claimed that the footage of the digging was outdated. However, the media challenged the department to provide evidence supporting their claim. Meanwhile, the district collector appointed a commission to investigate the incident, but the district administration has yet to release the report.

Despite these efforts, the sand mafia has once again commenced illegal digging on the island, highlighting the ongoing struggle to curb this illicit activity.
