Mangaluru, Sep 16: Muslims across Karnataka celebrated Eid Milad on Monday, September 16, marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
This occasion is observed to honor the life, teachings, sacrifices, and character of the Prophet, who is known for his compassion, even towards his enemies.
On Eid Milad, people wear new clothes, offer prayers, and exchange gifts. The festival falls in the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the lunar calendar, following the sighting of the moon. While it is a day of celebration for many, some also mourn, as it is believed to be the death anniversary of the Prophet.
On Monday morning, Muslim devotees took out a procession in Bunder to commemorate the occasion.
