New Delhi, Nov 22 (IANS): Internet major Yahoo Tuesday launched a free online video service, Yahoo! Video, in association with television channels and film production houses to offer content across multiple genres including news, entertainment, lifestyle and movies.
"Online video consumption is growing at a rapid pace. However, what the Indian market lacks is a safe and piracy-free destination delivering high quality and original content," said Yahoo India managing director Arun Tadanki.
"Yahoo! Video is a bold step and redefines the online video category through licensed, original and diverse content, promising an unparalleled experience to Indian users," he added.
The company has partnered with 35 leading content producers including NDTV, Star TV, Shemaroo, Headlines Today, PVR Pictures and Ultra for the service.
Yahoo! Video delivers original video content, free for all internet users in India and guarantees a trusted and safe environment for publishers and content providers to host their content, the company said.
It offers content acquired from original sources, spanning short and full-length movies, video capsules across news, entertainment, lifestyle and sports, providing access to an archive of thousands of videos.
Yahoo! India recently launched 'Movieplex' -- a destination where users can access licensed full-length movies for free.
According to a recent ComScore report, over 30 million Indians on an average watch 58 online videos every month.
