ICYM Mangalore diocese hosts 'DYC - 2024' in collaboration with Beltangady unit

Beltangady, Oct 11: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) Mangalore diocese, in collaboration with the ICYM Beltangady deanery and unit, will organize the 'DYC - 2024' event from October 10 to 13. The event was held under the theme, ‘Let us walk in the path of Christ and build a community of service’.

The programme began with a traditional 'Horekanike' (offering) ceremony, followed by the hoisting of the DYC 2024 flag. Addressing the gathering, Fr Clifford, principal of Holy Redeemer School, Beltangady, remarked, "The offerings brought by the youth of the 12 deaneries symbolize the unity and love of the youth from the Mangalore diocese and ICYM." He extended his best wishes to all.

The presidents of the 12 deaneries led a procession under the DYC 2024 flag. ICYM Mangalore diocese president, Winston Joel Sequeira, welcomed the dignitaries. The event was symbolically inaugurated by chief guest, retired judicial lawyer Vijetha Pinky Lobo, who encouraged the youth to cultivate patience and creativity. She expressed her admiration for the youth participating in such a grand event and extended her best wishes to all present.

The programme was presided over by Bishop Emeritus Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, who emphasized that the youth are the future of the nation. He stressed the importance of having a purposeful life and urged the youth to dream big and achieve success, making their community proud.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Fr Walter D’Mello, parish priest of Beltangady church; Fr Praveen D’Souza, director of ICYM Beltangady deanery; Fr Clifford Pinto, principal of Holy Redeemer School, Beltangady; Walter Monis, vice president of Beltangady church parish council; Gilbert Pinto, secretary of Beltangady church parish council; Fr Ashwin Cardoza, director of ICYM Mangalore diocese; Joyston D’Souza, joint secretary of ICYM and representative of Beltangady deanery; Supreeth Fernandes, president of ICYM Beltangady deanery; Monal Rasquinha, secretary of ICYM Beltangady deanery; Anselma D’Souza, president of ICYM Beltangady unit; and Ajay Rodrigues, secretary of ICYM Beltangady unit.

Fr Walter D’Mello, addressing the gathering, stated that there was much to learn from the convention and encouraged the youth to apply these learnings to their lives and grow as exemplary young individuals.

Fr Praveen D’Souza, director of ICYM Beltangady deanery, praised the efforts of the Beltangady unit in organizing the event and bringing together the youth of the Mangalore diocese.

ICYM Mangalore diocese secretary, Ashlynn Avitha D’Souza, delivered the vote of thanks, while ICYM Surathkal deanery secretary, Maria D'Silva, hosted the event.
