Mangaluru, Oct 17: A youth from Kerala assaulted a leader of a Hindu organization inside a police inspector’s room during an inquiry into a car collision, leading to his arrest. Hindu organization workers gathered outside the police station at midnight in protest.
The victim, Arjun Madoor, Prakhanda Coordinator of Bajrang Dal, Ullal city, was assaulted by Mohammed Asif (33), a resident of Hosangadi Kadambaru Government School, Kasargod district.
The incident began with a collision between the cars of Sharath, a resident of Kumpala, and Ibrahim Khaleel from Kerala on Wednesday night at the Thokkottu overbridge. Khaleel and his brother, Asif, assaulted Sharath, prompting a case to be registered at the Ullal police station. Arjun, a friend of Sharath, arrived at the station to discuss the matter. Asif suddenly entered the police station, verbally abused Arjun, and physically assaulted him. Arjun's friends intervened to stop the attack, and Asif was immediately arrested by the police. CCTV footage from the inspector’s room captured the incident.
Arjun was admitted to a private hospital in Deralakatte for medical treatment, and a case was filed against Asif. As the news spread, Hindu workers gathered outside the station, demanding that Asif be handed over to them. DCP Siddartha Goel and ACP Dhanya Nayak quickly deployed police security around the station. BJP district president Satish Kumpala and VHP president Gopal Kuthar visited the station, calling for strict action against Asif.
Arun Puttila also arrived at the station, which led to further slogan chanting by Hindu workers. Puttila urged DCP Siddartha Goel to take the assault inside the police station seriously and ensure stringent action against the accused.
Inspector Balakrishna was reportedly on his mobile phone outside the room during the discussion about the initial assault on Sharath when Asif entered the cabin and attacked Arjun. Hindu workers expressed anger, claiming they were not safe even within the police station.
