Mangaluru, Oct 21: Forest officials successfully captured a leopard cub that entered a house on Venkatramana Temple Road near Mulky on Saturday night.
The cub was found in the kitchen of the house belonging to Sadananda Kotian and Sheela Kotian, located near Rangers Float at Akkasaligara Keri, Venkatramana Temple Road. Forest officials from Moodbidri were able to safely capture the cub.
The couple had left the house earlier in the day for work. When they returned home at 9:30 pm, they washed their hands and feet in the bathroom, leaving the kitchen door open. Shortly afterward, they heard noises coming from the kitchen and bathroom.
Upon turning on the lights, they confirmed that an animal had entered their home. They immediately informed their neighbours and contacted the police. Mulky police confirmed the presence of a leopard cub, and the Moodbidri forest officials were called in. Late that night, the forest personnel successfully trapped the cub in a cage. A large crowd gathered at the scene, and the police had difficulty controlling the onlookers.
Forest officials estimated the cub to be about 1.5 years old. They also warned the public to remain vigilant, as adult male and female leopards may be nearby, guarding the cub, causing further panic among the locals.
