Udupi, Oct 21: "When a person speaks to another, it is a conversation, but when the same person addresses a group, it becomes a speech. Speech is also a medium of connection," said Fr Steven Fernandes, director of Indian Catholic Youth Movement of Udupi diocese.
He was speaking after inaugurating the effective speech art training workshop organized by the Catholic Sabha, Udupi region, at Kakunje Anugraha pastoral centre on Sunday.
"A speech is not merely a collection of words; it is a medium to express our true emotions and thoughts. How one presents their words in front of a group is equally important. Our words should not hurt others' personalities. Such training workshops are helpful in nurturing the skills of students in delivering effective speeches," he said.
JCI national trainer Basuma Kodagu participated as a resource person and, through his demonstrations, explained effective speech techniques and personal development to the students.
The event was presided over by Santosh Cornelio, president of Catholic Sabha, Udupi region.
Walter Cyril Pinto, the event coordinator, and Gerald Rodrigues, treasurer of Catholic Sabha, were present.
