Udupi, Oct 21: Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has expressed concern over the growing issue of illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the region. He alleged that the Congress party has been facilitating the issuance of Aadhaar cards to these illegal immigrants as part of a vote-bank politics strategy.
Yashpal Suvarna called the move a "betrayal of the nation." He said, "Providing opportunities to illegal immigrants has disturbed the peace in the region. We have written a letter to Union home minister Amit Shah and the home secretary, demanding a thorough investigation into the matter."
Yashpal Suvarna instructed the Udupi City Municipality to collect detailed information on migrant workers. He warned that the presence of workers from Bangladesh poses a potential threat to the district and emphasized that strict monitoring would be implemented.
"There will be active operations under the leadership of the municipal president, and surveillance will be carried out in every ward to identify migrant workers. If any Bangladeshi-origin workers are found, appropriate action will be taken. Udupi has a significant number of migrant laborers working in construction and the fishing industry, many of whom are from outside the region,” Yashpal Suvarna added.
He further commented on the situation in West Bengal, criticizing chief minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly allowing similar circumstances to develop for political gains. "We have seen what kind of situation has emerged in West Bengal. Mamata Banerjee did this for her chair, and now the entire country is facing the consequences," he said, asserting that the people of Udupi would not make the same mistake.
Speaking about the MLC by-election, Yashpal Suvarna said, “Kishore Kumar Puttur will definitely win the election with a huge lead. This victory will expose the corruption of the state government. Kishore Kumar Puttur, under the guidance of Kota Srinivas Poojary, will work for the welfare of the public.”
