Udupi, Oct 22: In a shocking incident, a man brutally murdered his friend by slitting his throat over a trivial dispute. The incident took place on Tuesday October 22 morning in a ground-floor room of Krishna Kripa Building, located near the old KSRTC bus stand in Udupi.

The victim has been identified as Prashanth Shetty (32), a resident of Korangrapadi. The accused, Eranna alias Dinesh, a resident of Huvinahadagali in Vijayanagara district, allegedly committed the crime.

Both men were heavily intoxicated and got into a heated argument, which escalated quickly. In a fit of rage, the accused, Eranna, used a sharp knife to slit Prashanth's throat. Prashanth sustained severe injuries and died at the scene.

After the murder, the accused himself called the police and informed them about the crime. The police promptly arrived at the scene, arrested Eranna, and took him to the station for further questioning.

Udupi SP Dr Arun K, ASP Siddalingappa, and other senior police officials visited the crime scene for inspection. Fingerprint experts were also called to collect evidence.

While initial investigations suggest that the murder occurred over a minor issue, the police are probing deeper to ascertain if there were any other underlying reasons behind the crime.
