Bengaluru, Oct 24: Lashing out at the Congress government for mishandling the development of Bengaluru, Leader of Opposition and BJP leader R Ashoka on Thursday said deputy chief minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar was making empty promiseson his pet theme of Brand Bengaluru and demanded that the people need safe and regular Bengaluru.
Speaking to media persons at Babusapalya, where under-construciton building collapsed leading loss of lives, he said the wrath of the affected by the heavy rains would be a curse to the government.
“Shivakumar is promising a mirage of Brand Bengaluru but the city is witnessing various mishaps on a daily basis. In the Babusapalya building collapse, 8 persons have lost their lives,” he said asking the government to explain how a seven-storeyed building was allowed to be constructed in an area with 20 ft wide road,wh ere a maximum permissible construction is three floors.
Ashoka urged the government to frame guidelines for construction of buildings and asked the authorities concerned to monitor the construction at every stage.
The senior BJP leader said the government has neglected desilting of drains and canals and garbage disposal. The lives of pourakarmikas was in danger, he said urging the government to take steps for the safety and welfare of the people.
