Kasargod: Teacher, ex-DYFI member arrested for defrauding job seekers of money in lacs

Kasargod, Oct 24: The Vidyanagar police on Thursday evening arrested a school teacher accused of defrauding people by promising them jobs in exchange for large sums of money.

The arrested individual has been identified as Sachitha Rai (27), a resident of Perla Sheni Balthakkal. She is reportedly involved in more than 12 cases of fraud. Complaints against her have been registered in Uppinangady, Badiadka, Kumble, Manjeshwar, Kasargod, Adur, and Melparamba police stations. She had been absconding for some time.

On Thursday evening, she was apprehended by Vidyanagar police when she arrived at the court to surrender.

Sachitha allegedly collected lacs of rupees from individuals, promising them jobs in various departments like CPCRI (Central Plantation Crops Research Institute), Kendriya Vidyalaya, Karnataka Excise Department, Forest Department, and SBI. The first complaint was lodged by Nishmitha Shetty from Kidur in Kumble, who accused Sachitha of cheating.

Following this, other cases of fraud came to light. Sachitha reportedly defrauded Nishmitha Shetty of over Rs 15 lac by promising her a job at CPCRI. She also took Rs 7,31,500 from Suchitra Rao of Delampady, promising her a job at Kendriya Vidyalaya.

The police are continuing their investigation, and more cases of fraud may emerge. According to police sources, Sachitha Rai is a former member of the DYFI district committee and was working as a teacher at a school in Badoor.
