Udupi: Former Udyavar gram panchayat president passes away on her 75th birthday

Udupi, Oct 26: Senior Congress leader and former Udyavar gram panchayat President, Sarala Kotian, passed away early on October 26 due to illness.

A resident of Ankadru, Udyavara, she took her last breath on what would have been her 75th birthday.

Sarala Kotian was a dedicated member of the Congress party for over 40 years, focusing on grassroots work. She served two terms as a gram panchayat member and was a member of the Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation (KFDC). From 1995 to 1998, she earned widespread respect for her leadership as Udyavar gram panchayat president.

Fondly known as ‘Sarlakka’ in the Udyavar community, she was admired for her simplicity and humility. Her unexpected passing on her milestone birthday has deeply affected her family and community.

Sarala Kotian is survived by her two sons, grandchildren, siblings, and a large extended family.
