Mangalore, Dec 5: In a surprising development, a girl, whose marriage was about to be solemnized, declared that she was not prepared to marry, before walking out of the decorated stage at the last minute. The incident occurred in a marriage hall in Kavoor in the city on Sunday December 4.

The marriage of a youth hailing from near Kujatbail here, and a girl from Padupanambur near Mulky, was about to be concluded. The two exchanged garlands as per custom. However, at the time the groom was about to tie the customary ‘Taali’ around the girl’s neck, the bride announced that she was not prepared for the marriage, and walked out.

Efforts of elders and relatives of the girl to convince her failed. She also took the priest, who tried to pacify her, to task, and raised a din by scattering the items set out on the stage. At the same function, the sister of the groom was also to be married. Her marriage went on without any problem.

It is said that the girl, after reaching home, expressed her decision not to marry for two more years.
