Goa, Oct 27: Manohar International Airport (GOX), managed by GMR Goa International Airport Ltd (GGIAL), has announced the launch of direct scheduled flights to Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport (TAS), operated by Uzbekistan Airways. This new route establishes an important link between Goa and Tashkent, broadening travel options for tourists at both ends.

The biweekly flights, scheduled for Wednesdays and Sundays, will operate on a narrow-body Airbus A320 or similar aircraft. Alongside direct flights to Tashkent, Uzbekistan Airways will offer one-stop connections to prominent cities in Russia and Europe, facilitating convenient travel for Goa’s outbound passengers.

The inaugural flight on Sunday, an Airbus A320 Neo with a capacity of 150 passengers, arrived at GOX at 10:55 am with 111 passengers on board. It departed for Tashkent at 12:15 pm carrying 84 passengers, marking a new chapter in Goa’s expanding international connectivity.

Uzbekistan, known for its historical cities like Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva, is growing in popularity among Indian tourists for its rich heritage, scenic landscapes, and warm hospitality. Meanwhile, tourists from Uzbekistan can now easily experience Goa’s array of attractions, from its sunny beaches and vibrant food scene to its rich cultural heritage and festive celebrations.

Adding Uzbekistan to Goa’s list of international destinations is expected to boost inbound tourism, attract foreign visitors, and expand outbound travel opportunities. With e-visa facilities and top-tier infrastructure, Manohar International Airport is poised to offer smooth travel experiences that support both tourism and socio-economic growth.

Speaking on the significance of this new route, R V Sheshan, CEO of GGIAL, said, “The launch of this non-stop flight to Tashkent reflects our dedication to enhancing Goa’s international reach. With Uzbekistan Airways connecting Goa directly to Uzbekistan, we are proud to become their third destination in India, marking a pivotal moment in our journey to strengthen global connectivity.”

“This route is more than a travel link—it’s an avenue for cultural exchange, fostering ties rooted in shared history and mutual interests between our two nations, opening doors to tourism and enriching each traveller’s experience.”
