Mangaluru, Oct 28: Ralph Roshan Crasta, better known as Roshan Bela, who has made a great contribution to the field of Konkani music, has been chosen for the 20th edition of Kalakar Puraskar jointly awarded by the Carvalho family and Mandd Sobhann.
Roshan, who hails from Bela and currently resides in Kelarai, Mangaluru, graduated from St Aloysius College. He developed a love for guitar at a young age and became proficient in it through self-effort. He has worked as an active member in several music groups. He has played lead guitar in music nites of prominent Konkani artists such as Henry D’Souza, Lorna, Victor Concessao, Melwyn Peris, Mick-Max, Roshan Belman, Lloyd Rego, Prajot D’Sa and others.
He has worked as the music director for 'Soad – 5 Mangoa', a singing TV reality show organized by Mandd Sobhann for young singers from Karnataka and Goa. He has composed music for several video songs. Written and composed some songs. The committee has selected him considering his hard work, diligence, dedication and interest in mentoring the newcomers for the excellence of Konkani music.
The 20th Kalakar Puraskar will include an honour of Rs 50,000, certificate and memento and shall be handed over during the 275th monthly theatre programme to be held at Kalangann, Shaktinagar on Sunday November 3 at 6 pm. John DSilva Karkal, a distinguished banker from Mumbai, will grace the evening as the chief guest. He will be accompanied by Stanly Fernandes, a prominent businessman based in Muscat, serving as the guest of honour. Soon after, Pio Agnelo and team from Goa will present Goynchem Daiz, a musical extravaganza.
The award was established in the year 2005 in the name of Konkani linguist Dr Pratap Naik's Carvalho family and Mandd Sobhann organization to honour Konkani performing arts artistes. So far, Arun Raj Rodrigues (Drama), Joel Pereira (Music), Harry D'Souza (Brass Band), Fr Charles Vas (Devotional Music), Anuradha Dhareshwar (Music), Sant Bhadragiri Achyutadas (Harikatha), James Lopes (Brass Band), Norbert Gonsalves (Music), Francis Fernandes Cassia (Drama), Roshan D'Souza (Music), Christopher D'Souza (Drama), Avil D'Cruz (Dance), Gopala Gowda (Folk), Dolla Mangallur (Drama), Irene Rebello (Vovio-Vers), Anita D'Souza (Singing), Nihal Tauro (Singing), Melwyn Peris (Music), Apolinaris D'Souza (Music) have received this award.
