Bantwal, Oct 28: The taluk-level sports meet organized by Balavikas English Medium School in Mani, Peraaje, was praised by Bantwal taluk panchayat executive officer Sachin Kumar for its exceptional sports arrangements. Jointly hosted by the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat School Education Department, the office of the block education officer Bantwal, the Kalladka zone sports committee, and Balavikas English Medium School, the event kicked off on Monday at Vidyanagar's Balavikas Grounds in Mani, featuring a two- day sports meet for primary and high school boys and girls aged 14 to 17. Presiding over the event, Kumar encouraged participants to approach sports with a balanced mindset, urging winners to remain humble and losers resilient, contributing to the nation's pride.
President of Balavikas Trust and school administrator Prahlad Shetty J inaugurated the sports meet by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Manjunathan MG, the block education officer, flagged off the march-past, and retired district physical education supervisor Gopal H unveiled the medals. Dignitaries in attendance included Mumbai-based businessman Mundappa S Paiyyade, government employees' union president Umanath Rai, primary school teachers' union president Jayaram, state physical education association president Rajendra Rai, primary school teachers' union president Hariprasad, physical education president Indu Shekhar, and art teachers' union president Chennakeshava, among others.
Physical education inspector Shivaprasad Rai delivered the introductory speech. Kamalaksha, president of the Kalladka zone sports committee, welcomed the gathering, and Mahesh Shetty, the organizing secretary, distributed a commemorative booklet. Anchoring duties were handled by Yagneshwari N and Sudha N Rao, while Jagadish Baltila extended the vote of thanks.
The meet began with the national anthem, followed by a flag march that saw participation from athletes across Kalladka, Vitla, Vamadapadavu, and Bantwal zones. The sports torch was lit by students from Balavikas English Medium School who had represented at the state level. This extensive sports event saw the participation of 680 athletes, 128 sports officials, and physical education teachers.
Digital certificates draw attention
A digital certification system featuring student photos was introduced to award winners at the taluk-level sports meet. Students were thrilled to receive certificates with their photos, a system implemented by Balavikas English Medium School that earned high praise from the guests.
